Who we are

We are a collaborative team of research groups who developed rbsXpress to provide an accessible and user-friendly platform for different RBS engineering tools that are developed as part of previous and ongoing research.

SynMiBi - Synthetic Microbiology Lab

The SynMiBi lab is currently based at the University of Regensburg (Germany) and will move to the EPFL in Lausanne (Switzerland) as of 2025. It is headed by Markus Jeschek and specializes on the development of experimental and computational tools to improve our understanding and engineering capabilities of bacterial systems. A particular focus is the use of such engineered microbes to enable sustainable bioproduction of value added chemicals.

BPL - Bioprocess Laboratory

The BPL of the ETH Zurich, located in Basel (Switzerland) and led by Sven Panke, is dedicated to generating new and improve existing bioprocesses. We use methods from fields such as synthetic biology, biosystems engineering, high-throughput experimenting, directed evolution, metabolic engineering, genome engineering and genome editing, protein engineering, and strain engineering. Our efforts have resulted in multiple spin-offs, translating academic innovation into solutions for industrial challenges.

Research Department Machine Learning and Systems Biology

The Machine Learning and Systems Biology Department at the MPI of Biochemistry in Munich (Germany) is headed by Karsten Borgwardt. It focused on big data analysis and biomedical research developing novel machine learning algorithms to detect patterns and statistical dependencies in large datasets from biology and medicine.
